Bedtime by age: quick reference

Most children do best with a bedtime between 18:30 and 20:00. The exact time depends on when they wake and when their last nap ends — use the calculator above for tonight, or this table as a starting point.

Bedtime questions parents ask

What time should a 1-year-old go to bed?

Usually between 18:30 and 19:30. If the afternoon nap ends after 15:30, aim for the later end of that window.

Is 8pm too late for a toddler's bedtime?

Not necessarily. If your toddler wakes around 7:30, still naps and falls asleep within 20 minutes, 20:00 can work. If they wake at 6:00 or fight bedtime, try moving it 15 minutes earlier every few nights.

Does an earlier bedtime stop 5am wake-ups?

Often, yes — early waking is frequently a sign of overtiredness. A bedtime that is too late can make mornings earlier, not later.

How long before bedtime should the last nap end?

Roughly one wake window: about 3–4 hours at 12 months and 4–5 hours for toddlers on one nap.

The numbers are the easy part

A calculator tells you when tonight's bedtime should be. It cannot tell you why last night fell apart, or what to change first. A Lunio plan is built from your child's age, current routine and the specific problem you are having — and you can start it tonight.
