How much does a sleep consultant cost? An honest breakdown
Real sleep consultant pricing across the UK, Germany, France, Italy and the Netherlands — with what's included, what isn't, and what else is available.

In this article
The honest answer is: it depends, and the entry-ticket price is usually not the total cost. Here is what sleep consultants actually charge across Europe, what is and is not included at different price points, and what the alternatives look like.
Why pricing is so variable
Sleep consulting is not a regulated profession in most countries. There is no governing body that sets fees, no standard package structure, and no certification requirement that parents can use as a reliable quality filter. One consultant charging €90 and another charging €900 may be offering similar — or wildly different — levels of service and expertise.
Experience and reputation. Consultants with a decade of practice, published methods, or large social followings charge significantly more than those who are newly certified.
Package depth. The difference between a €150 package and a €500 package is almost always the follow-up support — how many days, how many check-ins, and what triggers additional charges.
In-person vs. virtual. In-person support, including overnight home visits, costs substantially more. Virtual consultations have brought costs down and increased access significantly in the last five years.
Location. Urban practitioners in London, Paris, and Munich typically charge 20–30% more than those in smaller cities or rural areas.
Current pricing by country
All prices compiled from practitioner pricing pages, June 2026.
United Kingdom
- Single consultation (45–60 min): £50–£150
- Standard package (plan + 2-week support): £150–£500
- Premium/extended package: £500–£1,000+
- In-home overnight: £500–£1,500 per night
A 2-week package with daily messaging support — the most common UK format — typically runs £250–£350. Premium consultants and celebrity practitioners can reach £1,000+.
Germany (Schlafberatung)
- Single call (30 min): from €89
- Standard Schlafcoaching package: $175–$450
- Premium/intensive: $175–$450
A German Change.org petition (2023) with thousands of signatures called for health insurance to cover Schlafberatung. Currently, the standard Krankenkasse does not cover it; some supplementary policies (Zusatzversicherung) partially do.
France (consultant en sommeil)
- Single phone consultation: from €50
- Specialist centre (Paris): $175–$450per session
- Full package: $175–$450
Sleep consulting is a younger market in France than in the UK or Germany. The phrase « accompagnement au sommeil » is less established, and fewer practitioners operate, which means less price transparency.
Italy
- Single consultation (case study + 90-min session): approximately €200
- Deductible as a healthcare expense (detraibile al 19%)
- Market is less standardised; certified practitioners fewer than in northern Europe
Netherlands (slaapcoach)
- Single consult: $175–$450
- Standard package (2–3 weeks): $175–$450for entry-level coaches
- Experienced coach: $175–$450
- Standard health insurance (basisverzekering) does not cover slaapcoaching
- Some employer wellness budgets (vitaliteitsbudget) can be applied
What is and is not included
The most common source of dissatisfaction with sleep consultants is discovering what the package does not cover after you have paid.
Usually included:
- Initial intake assessment (questionnaire or call)
- Written sleep plan
- Some number of follow-up messages or calls
- A defined support window (7, 14, or 21 days is typical)
Often not included, or charged extra:
- Support beyond the initial package window
- Help if a regression hits three weeks after the plan
- Nap troubleshooting separately from night sleep
- Support after illness disrupts progress mid-plan
- A second parent being present on calls
One parent on Reddit described paying $400 for a plan, needing additional help when the baby regressed after three good nights, and ultimately spending over $1,100 before the problem resolved. This pattern is common enough to be worth factoring into your comparison.
When evaluating packages, ask specifically: what happens if I need support after the package window ends? What is included if illness disrupts the plan mid-way through?
The real cost of waiting
There is a cost to not acting that rarely appears in pricing comparisons. Sleep deprivation affects parental mental health, relationship satisfaction, work performance, and — in some cases — the child's cognitive and behavioural development. A study of over 4,000 German parents found that sleep does not fully recover for six years after a first child's birth. The cost of another month of disrupted sleep is real, even if it is not quantified.
This is not an argument for spending money you do not have. It is an argument for taking the problem seriously and making an active decision rather than defaulting to waiting it out.
The alternatives at each price point
Not every sleep problem requires a £400 human consultant. Here is what is available at different price points and what each is good for.
Free: your paediatrician. Most paediatricians have working knowledge of behavioural sleep interventions. The limitation is time — a 20-minute appointment is rarely enough to go deep. Good for ruling out medical causes; limited for building a structured plan.
$45: a personalised routine built from an assessment. The Lunio Pack generates a personalised bedtime routine — the right bedtime, nap structure, and wake windows for your child's age and pattern — from a five-question assessment. Not a replacement for a consultant in complex cases, but appropriate for the majority of toddler sleep problems where the issue is schedule misalignment or a disrupted routine.
€89: a voice consultation, available tonight. Nora Live is a 25-minute voice consultation that diagnoses what specifically broke down — after illness, travel, a regression, or a transition — and builds a personalised 5-night plan. Available immediately, with no waiting list. Includes the session recording, the written report, and five nights of follow-up support in writing.
Compared to a standard consultant package ($175–$450in most European markets), Nora Live is not a cheaper version of the same service. It is a different format — AI-powered rather than human, immediate rather than scheduled — that is appropriate for the large category of toddler sleep problems caused by a specific identifiable disruption.
$175–$450: a human sleep consultant. The right choice for complex cases, very young infants, families where multiple structured approaches have failed, or parents who specifically need the accountability of a human checking in daily.
How to find a reputable consultant
If you decide a human consultant is the right option:
- Look for certification from a recognised programme (Family Sleep Institute, Center for Pediatric Sleep Management, Possums Sleep Program)
- Ask specifically what methodology they use and confirm it aligns with your parenting values
- Ask what is included in the package and what triggers additional charges
- Check whether they have experience with your child's specific age and situation
- Read reviews that mention what happened when things did not go to plan — this is more informative than positive outcome reviews
